The Barbara Belle Ash Dougan Foundation was a major sponsor for the creation of the PETAL CBO (community based organization) school for girls. This included refurbishment of an existing facility and construction of new buildings. The new school year has started with a total of 35 girls in form 1 (freshman), 15 girls in form 2 (sophomore) and 20 girls in form 3 (junior)! The first wing of the dormitory is full with a classroom housing additional students. The next phase of construction includes a second wing dormitory and dining hall.

Phase 7 has just been completed.
The new boys' dorm will eventually house 280 boys: 140 on the ground floor and 140 on the first floor. The building will have a dorm configuration, in that there will not be cubicles as in the girls' dorm which has 10 spaces with 10 girls in each space. Showers and toilets will be on each end of the building.
There will be 8 construction phases, each taking a little more than a month, so it will take approximately a year with occupancy expected in September 2019. Phase 8 is begining now.
If it is not fully occupied right away, faculty may use the lower space.

St. Andrew's New Boys' Dormitory
The Barbara Dougan Foundation is involved in St. Andrews school in Kasarani, Kenya. In 2014 we built a dorm for 100 girls and now we are starting a dorm for the boys. The girls’ dorm was appreciated by the girls as they no longer had to walk back and forth to school. It was especially appreciated by the girls who had no parents and even the ones with single parents. The girls can concentrate on their school work instead of dealing with situations with their home life.
The new dorm will be a 2-story building and it will house 280 boys. Photos of the 2nd stage of building are shown above. As the building progresses we will add more photos.
